We were also able to welcome 11 visitors, who we hope will come to join us as members in time. It was great to see so many new faces after our successful day at the 4th Melksham Food Festival Fair.
We had a lovely evening with a very information talk by Mrs Win Quinney, a local bat rescuer. She intrigued us with lots of facts about the life and loves of the bat; as well as bringing in 3 captive bats (that had previously been injured and were unable to fly) for us to see.

2012 has been a thrilling, funny, exciting and educational year for everyone at Melksham WI; and 2013 appears to be a year much in the same vein.
We have now moved to our new home in Riverside Club, Bath Road, Melksham, which will be able to accommodate our growing numbers. Though it is with fond memories that we say goodbye to the Church Rooms. The new programme for 2013 is being put together with exciting activities and speakers as well as plans for our 30th Birthday! The Campaigns and Events committee of Wiltshire WI Federation did a great job of putting on a day's entertainment for us. Melksham WI had been lucky in being able to obtain all the tickets it had requested.
We were treated to talks on India from a Tourist's Perspective, Key Features of India, The Work of the ACWW (Associated Country Women of the World, The Neem Trust, and even a demonstration of some Indian dancing. It didn't stop there though, with the dancing instructor getting us all up and learning a dance - Julie, Gill and Emma made a great effort, and the rest enjoyed watching or doing the hand movements whilst sitting. We also had a lovely Indian lunch provided by Refa Tandoori. I wonder which country we will be going to next year? June is our Birthday party month. Just like the Queen we have two birthdays, with the actual anniversary being in March. The party was a great fun and gave everyone an opportunity to chat and catch up.
July's meeting had a very interesting speaker, who told us all about his grandfather and his exciting history. As well as how he went about finding out the story of his grandfather, writing it as a book and finally having the book published. Nothing stops the courageous ladies of Melksham WI! Armed with thermals, waterproofs, boot, gloves and brollies we braved the weather for an open air performance of one of Shakespeare's greatest comedies. Despite the rain, our spirits weren't dampened, with everyone having a lovely time. The performance by the actors was great, you would not have known that the rain was lashing at times. They truly lived up to the theatrical expression "The show must go on!" The audience really appreciated their efforts, and we are sure there were even more people in the audience than for the performance that we saw last year. Special notice should be made of the performance of Bottom - who did some great boasting and roaring! What a lovely meeting! Madelaine give a really good talk about the importance of midwives, which sparked a lively discussion about numbers of births and the overall way that nurses are trained today compared to when some of our members were first in nursing. The discussion was all about the WI's latest resolution to support the training and provision of more midwives, which has gone on to be accepted as the resolution for the WI at national level. By having a discussion rather than a speaker, it meant that we all had a bit more time for a cuppa and a natter - which is one of the best bits of
We had a lovely evening with a talk by Mr Nick Baxter about "Revolting Marlborough", which gave an interesting overview of the history of Marlborough and its role in national historical events - especially revolts against the government! A lovely time was had by all/
