What to expect at a Melksham WI meeting
What happens at the meeting
If you have never been to a WI meeting, then you may not be aware what we do. The meeting usually starts with a "welcome" from the President, thanks to those members who have jobs for the meeting from our rota, a mention of birthdays from the past month (as well as a small gift!), matters arising from the circulated minutes of the previous meeting will be raised, a note of any correspondence and the arrangements for the next meeting. This is followed by a brief financial statement, reports from any events members have been to, a review of coming events. The business part of the meeting is kept to a minimum (no more than 15mins) - this is followed by the speaker or activity for the evening. Refreshments are served with a chance to speak to other members, the raffle is drawn and the meeting ends about 9.30pm.
There are many events organised by the Wiltshire WI Federation, plus trips to the theatre and other activities - details can be found on this web-site on the "Events and more.." web page, plus flyers are available at the monthly meeting where you can sign-up. Please come and join us they are fun, educational and rewarding activities.

Raffle
Five items are donated by the member doing the raffle that month. These items may be unwanted presents, surplus toiletries etc.
Flowers
An arrangement of flowers from the garden or the shop, or even a potted plant. The flowers are usually donated to the raffle.
Refreshments
Three members work together to provide teas, coffees and biscuits for the meeting. Members will bring milk and biscuits. Tea, coffee and sugar are in store and there are often biscuits to be used up. Refreshments are usually served after the business of the meeting or after the speaker.
Jerusalem
We do not sing the WI anthem at every meeting, but usually at special meetings like our birthday and annual meeting! :-) Copies of the words are available at the meeting if you want them. Check out the link to youtube below if you've forgotten the words - but don't worry the lyrics will be available.

Rota for Jobs
Once a year, members are invited to volunteer for one of the four regular jobs at each meeting. Volunteering for these jobs is completely optional. The rota aims to ensure that each job is covered and that no-one is called on too often. If you are unable to cover a particular job due to holiday, sickness etc, please arrange a swap with another member or contact the President or Secretary.
